MOISTURIZE! It is essential to use moisturizers daily for dry, sensitive skin.
Limit water exposure! Excessively long showers and bathes can leave your skin dry.
- Limit bathes and showers to 5 minutes. Infants can bathe every other day.
- Make sure the water is not too hot. Lukewarm water is better for dry skin.
- Limit pool time in the summer as chlorine could exacerbate the condition.
Use fragrance-free products! Harsh soaps, cleansers, and detergents can cause dryness & eczema.
- Dove and Aveeno soaps and cleansers are gentle over the counter products.
- Use fragrance-free detergents such as ALL free and clear, Tide preservative-free.
- Minimize use of fabric softeners as they contain chemicals that could cause irritation.
Use medications as directed by your doctor! Keep in mind that dry skin & eczema prone skin is very susceptible to bacterial, viral and fungal infections. See your doctor if the condition is getting worse or not responding to the prescribed medications.

As you may have heard, Dysport, also known as abobotulism toxin A, is the newest product used to relax the frown lines that has recently been introduced to the US market.
Dysport has been long in use in Europe and Canada and has a much larger portion of the market than Botox in those countries.
Botox and Dysport are very similar and act in the same way, both are derived from the peptides of botulism toxin A with the same mechanism of action and effectiveness.
Even though Botox and Dysport are very similar and act in the same way, I have noticed the following differences through my experience with both Dysport and Botox.
First, as far as the onset of action, I believe that Dysport and Botox take about a week to show their full effect and have the same onset of action.
The major difference in my experience has been that Dysport diffuses more rapidly which is good and bad. It could be potentially risky around the eyes and eyebrows with higher chance of eyebrow/eyelid droops. However, when treating the forehead and glabella, the diffusion would allow a more natural and relaxed look.
The longevity of the results in my opinion depends on how many units injected with both botox and dysport. Dysport units are different than botox units, every three units of Dysport equates to the results of one unit of Botox. When dosed accordingly, they both last about the same in my opinion.
In short, in my practice, I prefer treating the crows feet with Botox to localize and focus on the area being treated without a chance of affecting the eyelid muscles. However, I prefer Dysport between the eyebrows and on the forehead to achieve a more even and relaxed look through the diffusion of the product.
